Is the hot weather effecting your flying abilities?
The article from the Washington Post (see link above) suggests that hot weather can adversely effect your mental abilities. The studies were done on students, but it is easy to extrapolate the data to cover our flying abilities.
And, to get you in the mood for the Oct Float Fly:
Time to get ready for the Fall Float Fly! Tower Hobbies is offering this FMS PA-18 for only $249. The price includes floats.
Construction is EPO foam, a 2 piece wing (67") with functional flaps, and is powered by a 4S battery. They said the assembly time is less than 60 minutes (unless you try to build the thing in my shop).Flying weight is less than 5 pounds. Oversized tires included for the other 50 weeks of the year (don't forget the Spring Float Fly).
Research has shown that "the hotter it gets, the more our brains seem to slow down". In one study, for each 1 degree increase in temperature, you reduce the amount learned in a year by 1%. Since our area experiences more than 30 days per year with temperatures in excess of 90 degrees F, the impact on our cognitive ability while exposed to high temperatures can be significant.. High temps can also make us angrier. Data shows relationship between temperatures and hostility (from crime statistics).
Come out and fly with us. We have a 600 x 100 ft Bermuda grass runway and power for e-flyers. Gates open at 8am, lunch starts at noon til the food runs out. $15 pilots, $5 spectators. Additional info call Tim @ 828-388-0279 or Tom @ 854-804-0035
Heat creates physical effects in your body that makes you sleepy, as well as causing dehydration and skin damage.
In addition, dehydration alone can make you feel tired and lethargic.
Heat can trick your brain. You may not even notice the changes until you have removed yourself from the sun.
If along with sleepiness, you start to experience extremely heavy sweating, dizziness, flushed skin, nausea, lightheadedness, headache, or a weak or rapid pulse, immediately seek medical attention and get to a cooler area.

On a sad note, our friends at Heads-Up RC closed shop on August 22, 2019.
We're gonna miss 'em! It was my go-to site for electric motors, ESC's and batteries. Thanks for the past 13 years. You were great for the hobby!
A man goes into the airplane section at his hobby shop to get some parts. The man asks the clerk, and then the clerk asked the guy in the backroom. He replied "I ain't got it!" Everybody in the RC car section dives to the floor.
