We have been involved in introducing modeling to children of all ages, sending children to camp, doing flying demos at local schools, churches, and parks. We have also set up simulators and static displays at various locations as an educational experience to our community. We are always open to new ideas to promote our hobby to others in a safe way.
LARKS Mission Statement
To promote model aircraft building and flying as a family oriented hobby, to freely and openly share what we have collectively learned and experienced, and to provide an enjoyable, friendly and safe environment for our fellow hobbyists and guests.
This 80 mm twin 12 blade EDF is an engineering marvel, and though it still hasn't taken off the runway, it is an impressive piece of work.
We got to view the "guts" and wiring. Wow, this is possibly the most complicated model ever to grace our fields. It has a rigid aluminum wing box assembly with pre-installed servoless actuators to work the swept wing. Motion RC says the plane will fly at 38 mph with the wings extended to over 100 mph with the wings swept back.
Team USA consisted of Dave Lockhart, AC Glenn, Joseph Szczur and Greyson Pritchett with the Team Manager being Bill Pritchett. These guys are on the radio control indoor precision aerobatics team.
Premium Capsites are sold out, but it looks like you can still find a place to camp out. Check with registration on pricing (camping fee covers just the camping site, not the individuals. Bring your sunscreen and bug spray!
A compilation of video from past Float Flys at Lake Murray, SC.
For those of you at the field on the 23rd of March, we got to witness Dave Knox's beautiful sailplane (see photo of the month above). I've always wanted a motor glider, so I searched for something more my speed.
The Flyzone Eluna motor glider has 4 channel controls (ailerons!), a folding prop, and a no glue construction. The tail section attaches with two small bolts and the two piece wing also bolts on with a composite joiner. Price is right at $99.99 and you even get a FREE Spectrum AR410 4-channel receiver that fits in the hatch area perfectly!. Just add a 1300 mAh three cell LiPo and you're ready to go.
I made one small modification to mine. The elevator pushrod is fairly flimsy and up elevator wasn't working as well as I'd like, so I added a short length of tubing near the tail section to stabilize the pushrod. See below:
